Day #14

(26/10)

  • Planned to do CFD but cancelled it. Stomach hurt and also didn’t feel like it.

  • Breakfast
Had an early breakfast. Made nasi goreng with eggs and sliced smoked beef. It was surprisingly filling.

  • Laundry day

  • Famima trip
Tried Fami Ice. It was only 7k for a chocolate soft-serve. It was on the sweeter side, but still enjoyable. Also had ubi cilembu to share with my husband. That was lunch for us.

  • Netflix binge
    • a house of dynamite
    • eye in the sky
    • 28 years later (unfinished)
    • boots

  • Early dinner
Made shortplate tumis XO. It was…meaty?

Day #13

(25/10)

  • Made breakfast
There were only 2 slices of bread left so I made an open savory toast with smoked beef and cheese

  • Pilates day
It’s been 2 weeks since the last time I had private Pilates day, so I was excited. It was a Tower Pilates day with new movements. I still feel a bit sore 2 days later! I like it!

  • Lunch
Tried the nearby ayam ganash for lunch. It was surprisingly better than I thought it’d be! At least on the mouth.. Made my stomach curled the next morning

  • Hijrah’s shop
    Meat shopping for the week

  • Visited the in-laws
Spent the afternoon at my in-law’s, dropping the souvenirs from Singapore. Also had a nap there. And Matcha! Drove home approaching Maghrib’s time.

  • Dinner? I don’t think we had dinner

  • Showed my husband intro to riptide on ukulele. also, tuned the ukulele myself!

Day #12

(24/10)

  • Stayed home
My husband worked from home as well since I didn’t feel all that great

  • Made breakfast
It was a sweet toast day

  • Made lunch
I made the pakcoy saus telur for lunch. It was nice and fitting for me who’s feeling under the weather

  • Made Lego (Minecraft)

  • Made dinner
Dim wanted to have pop mie for dinner so he did, with the leftover pakcoy and ayam oseng taichan from a couple of days ago.

Day #11

(23/10)

  • Made breakfast
Today was a savory breakfast day. Tried the smoked beef patty but the flavor wasn’t prominent. Maybe I used too many sauce? Will try with 2 slices of patty per sandwich next time.

  • Pilates
Tried the 10am class with a different instructor. This time the traffic going there was much more manageable. The class only consisted of 2 students, so that was nice. I like the instructor better than the Day #8 one.
  • Went to PIM
    • Bought flu meds
    • Lunch @Leko
I had the Iga Oseng Sambal Hijau. It was good. I think all the menu of Leko have a strong taste of terasi, because this one also reeked of terasi. I liked it nonetheless.
    • Write @JCO
I had Jcool single while writing 3 blog posts (including this one). Should write more regularly.
    • Drafted the Salzburg’s Asia Policy Leadership forum

  • Nap
    I didn’t feel too great.
  • No dinner
My husband spent the evening outside with his friends so I didn’t prep dinner.

  • Practiced Ukulele for a bit

Day #10

(22/10)

  • Made breakfast
    Today was sweet toast day
  • Doomscrolling, sadly 😦
  • Read a book, a bit
  • Went to the tailor to alter the green shirt that was bought originally for Dim but the sleeves were too short
  • Shop @diamond
  • Nap
  • Strum Ukulele, practicing switching chords
  • Prep dinner
    Made ayam oseng taichan

All in all, it was not a packed day. No highlight activities. Started to feel unwell, might be coming down with a flu.

Day #9

(21/10)

  • Ukulele lesson day #1
Rewatching and relearning the Ukulele tutorial on YouTube! This time, with my own Ukulele. Got better at chord changing (just between C, F, and G), got more comfortable with strumming as well. I don’t think I get a sense of what a rhythm is haha so I tried strumming alongside a metronome. Also, still couldn’t make sense of the song “you are my sunshine” that’s used as an example. I played the exact same chord and the (almost) exact strumming as instructed but mine came out wrong. I think my singing along threw me off as well. All in all, enough for a first day.

  • Laundry – bedsheet
    LOL, a chore.

  • Interviewed by an undergrad
Helped an undergrad on his thesis by being his source. The topic was around DPIA. I talked A LOT for more than an hour.

  • Nap
    Because of course.

  • Made XO Sauce
A bit of work, blending all the ingredients and sauteed them, but anything to help future me.
  • Prep Dinner
Originally wanted to make a chinese style stir fried tempe, but ended up using the XO sauce. Had dinner before my husband because he had work he wanted to finish before going home.

Day #8

  • Pilates

I booked the pilates session the day before. I wanted to take the car but realized I didn’t have the parking card so I wouldn’t be able to take the car out. My husband, who was already on the MRT station, went back home to drop the card. I was touched by the gesture.

I drove to the studio and the road was full of motorbikes swarming left and right. It was uncomfortable. I made it about 15 minutes before the class started. The class was marketed as “flow” but honestly it was rather tough, haha. I managed to pull through, though.

  • Coffee

I grabbed Tuku after the pilates in Decathlon Pondok Indah. The entrance was blocked so I thought they were not open yet (even though Google said it was). Then I saw someone who looked like a visitor got out from the door next to the entrance, so I decided to get in through that. I got my coffee, yeay!

  • Groceries

Once I parked the car, I decided to stop by Diamond to do groceries first before going up to the apartment. I did not buy much food/perishable to be honest, mostly was daily needs such as soap. Still, the bill came out surprising. Haha

  • Nap

  • Made dinner

I made spaghetti aglio olio which turned out to be lacking a little bit of salt haha.

Quitting my job

Daily writing prompt
What’s the biggest risk you’d like to take — but haven’t been able to?

The biggest risk I’d like to take but haven’t been able to is probably quitting my job. Quitting a job is a complex matter. The concern is not just economical, but also mental. Both my parents are the first generation in their family to probably raise the social class and live on a salary, not just uncertain income. They always insist on living a “certain” life. To them, “certain” means not having to worry about where your money would come from and whether you’d be laid off, which translates to government jobs.

I’d like to bet on myself. Switching careers to truly being a professional. Maybe a consultant. Or work for a private company as an expert hire. Albeit young, I have the qualification. However, experience wise, people might see me lacking (even though I’ve worked many difficult cases).

I’m afraid of betting on myself, so I don’t think I’ve ever really tried. It seems like the safest option is to just stay, grinding in an environment I despise, and just build my capital.

Maybe that isn’t bad?

Aching from helplessness

Reading one of the first statements uttered by the newly appointed minister of finance aches me. I feel my chest tightening and my tears rolling. It’s 23.00 now and I can’t seem to just shake the feelings off. It seems so unfair that in this world, maybe specifically in this country for this context, so many people are suffering to make a living and this new Pak Menteri just claimed that the recent public demonstrations were because of people “merasa kurang”. What the actual fuck.

To this day, I am still haunted by this citizen journalism that covered everyday workers’ lunch. There was this picture of a wide-smiling young man with a quote “hari ini saya makan lauknya telur karena saya ulang tahun”. He genuinely looked so happy, but reading it broke my heart (it still does).

There were many instances where I read the stories of or interacted firsthand with hardworking yet vulnerable workers. Their stories vary, but they’re all struggling to have a decent and balanced quality of life.

I just… can’t comprehend how people can be sooo ignorant and even so vile towards their fellow human being. It truly aches me, mentally and physically.

It’s 23.20 now. My tears have dried and writing this has calmed me a bit. I have also read the full context of Pak Menteri’s statement and realized that it was a bad choice of words on his part, which was then blown out of proportion by many Instagram accounts. (From one of the online media that I forgot, the actual context was: “menurutnya, suara-suara ini merupakan representasi dari kelompok yang belum merasakan dampak positif dari kondisi ekonomi saat ini.”). Still, my concerns and my pain remain real and the same.

Anyway, I hope I can sleep now.

rusty spirituality

[this writing is made using the daily writing prompt as an attempt to get back into writing]

The concept of spirituality and its importance is always going to be contested. What I can say is that spirituality is a practice. It takes effort in brewing and maintaining spirituality. Spirituality is not an innate property that everyone is born with. Sure, you may be born into a certain belief. However, if you do not practice and seek it yourself, that belief would just become hollow spirituality.

I personally was born into a Muslim family. I would say my family was a moderate Muslim. My mom did not even wear hijab until she’s well into her 40s (or maybe even her 50s?). I grew up learning the values of Islam not from my parents, but rather from school and Quran extracurricular. As I wasn’t taught what it meant to be spiritual (or be a believer), my focus was really just to ace the academic challenge presented with learning my religion through the school subject ant the extracurricular. I wish it was different, but anyway.. Yeah, that’s me.

When I was in high school, I wanted something so so bad that I started to hope and pray diligently. There’s not a single free time that I didn’t use to wish for what I wanted to come true. My head and heart was filled with nervousness, expectation, but at the same time.. submission. Looking back, I think I learned what spirituality meant through that experience. Then, life happened..

Nowadays, I found myself lost. I have not truly want anything to that degree of extreme anymore. So I stopped really asking. However, I’m not satisfied with the current state as well. Still, I just go on through the motion. A little bit of complaint, a little bit of gratitude, but never enough to push myself to “seek” further. Now I lie awake thinking, should I?
